This is to show my new progress so far.
I have been asked by a lot of artists lately, How I achieved this 'brushy look' or 'cool designs' . Funny thing is. each time someone asks me that I'm like huh? which one? .. With that I mean because I have practiced these things so much im not self aware about it anymore.
My road to become better is. Since i started painting i started reading a lot. reading as in art / design related books. But also Sci-fi novels which i adore of course. And because of that I train my brain to not only paint and nothing else but know how to think more and do less.
As for the Brushy feeling :
A great quote from Harold Speed which i alway repeat is 'Less strokes more thinking' . As in try to know what you do before you randomly paint stuf. If you don't know how to paint a tree go and do tons of studies and then try to paint a tree.
What also helped me a lot is i watch a lot of traditional painters. with that I mean videos or portraits and see what they leave out and what they render out. Your canvas is your play ground, so why should you be so careful the whole time?
The design part :
First 2 years i thought i have to paint everything and do it all from my head. Well I was wrong in so many ways. I found out that most artists i admire and who have worked in the industry for years, do everything nessesary to be able to make a good design that functions.
My friend and mentor Moh Z Muhtar ( Look him up great great designer/artist) Told me this simple thing
'Form follows function' after that everything i did I first thought would this work? how does it fit? why does it look like that? Etc etc.
To keep the whole thing short.
Don't be afraid to fail.. I have failed so many times and still do. 70 % of the stuff i do are ugly.. All you see on my DA ever are then onces which got lucky. Everybody is born creative it just depends what you do with it.
Thanks for taking the time to read it.
